Monique has travelled widely throughout her life, aided by the fact that she used to work for a touroperator in Amsterdam most of her working carreer and hence was able to travel to many places in the world. Now, being a mother, her travels have slowed down, but nevertheless she still seeks to discover new countries and places as much as she possibly can. Photography being her favourite passtime, she always returns home with a lot of pictures. A couple of years ago she started writing travel stories as well, to go with the numerous photos she has collected throughout the years. Since that time she has published a number of stories and photos in Dutch travel magazines and is hoping to publish a hell of a lot more.
Clemens grew up in Switzerland and met Monique in Guatemala on his 7-months journey through Central America, after which they continued travelling together. Soon after, he moved to Holland to start a new life. From his passion for building websites and his admiration for Monique's pictures, their site "Onderweg" - which means "On the road" - was born. Additionally, his great interest in tropical marine life would take him anywhere in search of coral reefs.
Their son has opened new eyes during their travels. Doors open, where they remained closed before. The pace of travelling has slowed down, which only enabled them to experience a place more deeply and more thoroughly than before. Travelling with a child is totally different, not better or worse, just different. There are certain places in the world where one is respected more when travelling as a family, and this is a great plus. On the other hand, travelling long distances like they used to do, becomes a hassle and is now avoided. It is all a matter of adjusting…
